Section 28 creative workshops

October 2023 onwards

To mark the 20th anniversary of the repeal of Section 28 the ‘Section 28 and its afterlives’ team worked with the brilliant Dr Chloe Asker to organise a series of creative workshops for members of the university’s LGBTQ+ community and allies.

In these workshops we reflect on Section 28 and its legacies, engaging with this challenging period of recent LGBTQ+ history in a hands-on, empowering way, by using collage to create a personal response to a range of historical material. You can see the moving, funny, joyful, subversive and angry artworks produced during these workshops across this website. If you think this looks like fun, please do join us at our next creative workshop at Exeter Library on Sunday 6th October, 1-3pm as part of Out There Exeter, the South West’s first queer fringe festival. You can sign up here.
