Queering the legacies of Section 28: a protest collage exhibition
Walkway Gallery, Exeter Phoenix, Gandy Street, Exeter
30/09/24 – 07/10/24
Curated by Chloe Asker, with artwork produced by LGBTQ+ individuals in the Southwest.
The Section 28 and its afterlives team organised a series of creative workshops for the LGBTQ+ community and allies in Exeter and across the South West. In these workshops, we’ve reflected on Section 28 and its legacies in a hands-on, empowering way, by using collage to respond to newspaper headlines and other historical material from the period.
You can find more artwork on our website here.
The exhibition, hosted by Out There Exeter in the Walkway Gallery at Exeter Phoenix, showcases the moving, funny, joyful, subversive, and angry collages produced during these workshops, alongside the material that prompted the response.
